World Marathon Masters

That should read "World Marathon Majors".

This is a championship–style competition for marathon runners, which started in 2006. There are actually eight races in the series, six of which are run every year. The other two are the IAAF World Championships marathon (run every other year) and the Olympic marathon (run every four years – as if you didn't know).

The six annual World Marathon Majors are Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York.

The men's title has been won by Kenyan runners in ten of the competition's eleven years to date. (The exception was Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia, in 2012–13.) Seven different Kenyan runners have won the title; the champion for the last three years (2015–16, 2016–17 and 2017–18) has been Eliud Kipchoge.

The first women's champion (2006-7) was Gete Wami of Ethiopia. Germany's Irina Mikitenko won it in the next three years, and in the last seven years it's been won by Kenyan runners. The current champion is Mary Keitany. This is her third title; Edna Kiplagat has also won it three times, and Priscah Jeptoo once.
